- Do I need a water detection system?
If you are insured for business interuption then yes you do. A water detection system is needed when there is a risk of water penetrating a critical area e.g. Comms room or UPS room. Water can come from a variety of places like toilets, kitchens, showers, air conditioning units, water pipes and even from outside the building.
- Is leak detection expensive?
This depends on your requirements. A single zone system with no more than 15 metres of sensing cable including installation will cost less than £1000. Leak detection only starts getting expensive when you require a large area of protection and a more sophisticated controller.
- Can leak detection systems be integrated with building management systems?
Yes they can. All systems come with volt free relay contacts for basic alarming. Some systems have various other types of connections ranging from RS-232, RS-485, Modbus, JBUS, 4-20mA etc.
- Do leak detection systems need maintenance?
Yes they do. All manufacturers state that systems should be checked regularly. Water, Chemical, Hydrocarbon and Solvent detection systems should be serviced once every six months by a trained service company. Gas detection systems should be maintained either once or twice a year depending on the manufacturers guidelines. If a system is not maintained there is no guarantee it will work when a leak happens. Most people think a green light means the system is working properly. This is not the case, the green light is purely an indicator that mains power is running through the control panel. The control panel can fail and still display a green light.
- Can I service leak detection systems myself?
No you can't. They should only be serviced by trained personnel, who have thorough knowledge of their workings.
- On systems when service required is displayed is this a service timer to make me have a service?
No, this is an alarm to tell you the system is not functioning correctly and if left. When a leak occurs will cause the leak location to be displayed in totally the wrong place. This is normally caused by contamination on the sensor.
- What is contamination on a leak detection system?
Contamination is when a sensor is coated with a substance, this can be numerous things. These are the typical things - brick dust, carbon used to stop air conditioning belts from squealing, mastic, pipe lagging, dirt from previous leaks, limescale etc. On most occasions this can normally be cleaned off by your trained service company.
- I want a system, but don't know how to go about it. Can you help?
Yes we can. All you need to do is contact us with your requirements or arrange for us to meet to discuss your requirements. You can contact us by telephone on 0845 686 6066, by email on info@resikom.com, by fax on 0845 686 6067 or by filling in the form on the contact page.
- What areas do you work in?
We are able to work in any area of mainland UK. This means we can cover the whole of England, Scotland and Wales.
- Do you have any products suitable for intergration into air conditioning units or control panels?
Yes we do. At present we have a module called the AT-LDM which comes with a din rail mountable carrier. These units are capable of accepting adapted TraceTek sensing cables TT1000, TT3000, TT5000, TT5001, water detection probes, optical oil sensors, float switches, immersion sensors and dual containment probes.
