Water Detection Module

Water Detection Module

The unit has been designed to detect the presents of water or any conductive liquid. The WDM unit detects water by pulsing a bi-directional current (AC) across the sensor. An open collector output is provided which can be used to operate an external relay (provided by others). This relay can then be used to start/stop pumps, send a water detected signal to a Building Management System (BMS) or any existing alarm system such as a Fire alarm panel or burglar alarm. Any number of WDM modules can be connected to a common relay giving a multi zoned system with a common alarm relay output. A sensitivity adjustment potentiometer is provided within the module allowing the detection from just small amounts to a large amount of a conductive liquid across the sensor. If required the unit can be set at our factory to ultra sensitive allowing the detection of deionised water. A range of sensors can be provided from cable which detects along its entire length to spot probes/pads for detection in drip trays, sump tanks or high/low level detection. Cable would be used to detect leaks along pipe runs or under equipment such as air conditioning plant ensuring that any leak will be detected.

Single & Two Zone Water Detection Units

Single & Two Zone Water Detection Units

The WLD range has been designed to monitor critical areas for water leaks via spot sensors or linier cable. Any number of spot sensors or a maximum of 50 metres of linier water detection cable can be connected to each zone. The range comes as standard with monitoring of the interconnecting cable between the sensors and the control unit. Any disconnection of the sensors from the controller will instigate a “Sensor Fault” alarm. Complete with an audible warning device, mute push button, flashing 8mm red alarm lamp and 8mm Control live green lamp, the sensor monitoring circuit includes an 8mm tri-coloured LED, red (fault) /green (Normal) lamps per zone. Once a water leak has been detected, the controllers red “Alarm” lamp will start to flash, the audible warning device will start and the common alarm relay will close. The unit will remain in this condition even if the water is removed from the sensor. Only muting the alarm will stop the sounder, turn on the lamp permanently and de-latch the alarm. If water is removed from the sensor before pressing the “Mute Alarm” button, after muting the alarm lamp will extinguish indicating that no water is present and the common alarm relay de-energise. However if water is still being detected only the audible warning will stop leaving the lamp permanently on and the relay energised. Only when the water has been removed will the lamp extinguish and the relay de-energise. All WLD units have a common alarm set of volt free contacts for onward signalling to Building Management Systems (BMS), telephone dialler, control systems and Water Shut Off valves. Multiple WDA units can be interconnected to give a number of zones within one or more areas. A common alarm unit (CAU1) installed within a security room, a corridor or control room, can be interconnected to all WLD units. Each zone is provided with a sensitivity potentiometer housed within the electronic interface box. This has been provided to allow individual zones to be set to high sensitivity for sensitive areas or low sensitivity for areas known to experience high humidity or water splashes. Unlike other water detection units on the market, the WLD range from CMR electrical uses a bi-directional (AC) signal within the sensors. Using alternating current stops electrolyses which causes the sensors to disintegrate and a system unable to detect water. The use of alternating current also allows the sensors to be continually monitored even when submersed in water. This allows the system to self reset after water has been removed for the sensor and no further action to reinstate or reset the system is required from the operator

Features

  • Large indication LED lamps for ease of Alarm identification from a distance
  • On board audible warning device to alert local operators of a problem
  • Alarms latched until Mute operated to give indication of transient water leaks
  • Common alarm relay to onward signal to a BMS or used to shutdown water valves
  • Lamps, relay and Horn test Facility to ensure that the unit is working correctly
  • Zone signal isolation to stop multiple alarms due to sensors coming into contact with Earth
  • Small foot print, wall or surface mounted
  • Monitoring of each zone cable and sensor to ensure continuity and integrity
  • A Bi-directional DC signal in the sensors to stop electrolyses and polarization
  • Individual Zone sensitivity adjustment allowing any zone to be set for high to low sensitivity

Four Zone Water Detection Unit With Events History

Four Zone Water Detection Unit With Events History

The WLD4 has been designed to monitor four independent zones in critical areas for water leaks via spot sensors or linier detection cable. Any number of spot sensors or a maximum of 50 metres of linier water detection cable can be connected to each zone. The range comes as standard with line fault monitoring of all four zone interconnecting cables and detection sensors. Any line disconnection including sensor from the controller will instigate a “Sensor Fault” alarm. The unit contains an audible warning device, Mute push button, History & history Exit buttons and a back lit alphanumeric display. A non-volatile event history is included as standard to show the past 250 events. This can be used to identify sensitive areas or faulty equipment. When water is detected by one of the zones, the display will start to flash with the location, the audible warning device will start and the zone alarm relay closes. The unit will remain in this condition even if the water is removed from the sensor. Muting the alarm will stop the sounder and the display flashing. If water is removed from the sensor before pressing the “Mute Alarm” button, after Muting the display will revert back to its normal state indicating that no water is present and the zone alarm relay will de-energise. However, if water is still being detected only the audible warning will stop leaving the location in the display and the zone alarm relay energised. Only when the water is removed from the sensor will the display revert back to its normal mode. Each zone is provided with a sensitivity potentiometer housed within the electronic interface box. This has been provided to allow individual zones to be set to high sensitivity for sensitive areas or low sensitivity for areas known to experience high humidity or water splashes. The WLD4 as standard has an individual relay for each zone with a normally closed set of volt free contacts. All four relays can be used to individually onward signal to a Building Management Systems, telephone dialler, control systems and Water Shut Off valves or can be wired together to give a common alarm output. Unlike other water detection units on the market, the WLD range from CMR electrical uses a bi-directional (AC) signal within the sensors. Using alternating current stops electrolyses which causes the sensors to disintegrate leaving the system unable to detect water. The use of alternating current also allows the sensors to be continually monitored even when submersed in water.
